Journey

Right now I have my friends baby boy (16 months old) and he is not a happy camper. He cried for quite a while when she left, but them played happily with The Bug for a while as I cleaned the kitchen. Now he is back to sobbing. He misses his mommy and he is tired. It has been a long time since I had a baby crying like this in my house. The Bug isn't really a big cryer. If I had a cryer is was The Princess, and even she only cried when she was having reflux problems. I just wanted to put something on here about how the Girl Scouts are going. We have missed the last two meetings. Two weeks ago we cancelled because Pres. Bush was coming to town for a visit and last week I cancelled because we were in the middle of an ice storm and I was coming down with "the cold of death". It was miserable. So, now we are going to play catch up and start getting some stuff done.

We are going to work on completing our "Be a Sister to Every Girl Scout" petal for February.

Today is Daisy meeting and we are going to have our first Journey meeting. That means that I am going to have up to 10 girls planting seeds in my dining room. What a fun mess that will be!

The journey is designed to teach the girls the three leadership keys of Girl Scouts: Discover, Connect and Take Action. This year the Journey theme is: It's Your World: Change It. The Daisy Journey is a flower garden theme and is designed to teach the girls the benefits of working together as sister Girl Scouts to make the world a better place.

The key is: Discover + Connect + Take Action = Leadership. There are 15 desired outcomes to this leadership experience. Five goals for each of the keys. I am going to star the goals that are specific to the Daisy Girl Scouts
Discover:
**1. Girls develop a strong sense of self.
**2. Girls develop positive values.
**3. Girls gain practical life skills.
4. Girls seek challenges in the world.
5. Girls develop critical thinking.

Connect:
1. Girls develop healthy relationships.
**2. Girls promote cooperation and team building.
3. Girls Can resolve conflict.
4. Girls advance diversity in a multicultural world.
**5. Girls feel connected to their communities locally and globally.

Take Action:
**1. Girls can identify community needs.
2. Girls are resourceful problem solvers.
3. Girls advocate for themselves and others, locally and globally.
**4. Girls educate and inspire others to act.
5. Girls feel empowered to make a difference in the world.

These are the goals of the program and I really hope that I can help the girls to learn and grow and become the confident and caring young women that I know that they can be. I just need to get myself more comfortable with the Journey program.

Today we will be planting a mini garden of lettuces and basil and such. This will help the girls to better understand the goal for being "responsible for what I say and do" which is one of the petals that they earn. Taking care of the mini-garden will help them to learn to be responsible by requiring them to nurturing the plants.

Okay, if you followed along all the way to the end of this rampling post you deserve a prize! By for now.
